Sustainability through Urban Agriculture
Sustainability through Urban Agriculture
Green Boots Veteran Community Horticulture Marketplace is our community hub on Detroit’s west side that services the two arms of our organization:
Green Thumbz Consulting and Project Green Machine.
resources for the veteran community
From personal experience, we understand how invisible disabilities from military service can impact a Veteran’s overall well-being and their ability to support themselves.
Green Thumbz Consulting (a non-profit) was created to support military Veterans and their families in building a sustainable future through urban agriculture.
Using horticulture as a proven therapy for those suffering from PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues, our goal at Green Thumbz is to provide a place of community, learning, and empowerment.
We believe urban agriculture provides great potential, and our Consulting program focuses on helping Veterans to:
Earn a liveable wage
Have a flexible schedule that puts mental and physical well-being first
Alleviate common stressors and triggers
Continue their service commitment through community-focused work
Take control of their health and career
Veterans still have value even after their service has been completed
Green Thumbz is here to help you plant the seed to improve your tomorrow.

A COMMUNITY HORTICULTURAL MARKETPLACE
Project Green Machine is a fresh, high-quality organic produce grower, distributor, and educator, and uses Green Boots as its marketplace and community education space.
We provide fun, motivating wellness-based trainings in Detroit, in an urban corridor that lacks many healthy food options.
Our goal is to support families by supplying them with healthier food options and educating them on improved dietary habits that combat underlying health issues.
We grow healthy, nutritious produce using organic methods, and are currently working towards organic certification as part of the USDA’s Transition to Organic Partnership Program.
Our crops include farm vegetables, microgreens, herbs, and melons and are available for sale at our farm stand.
